Privacy Policy

LifeTrace – AI Life Recorder  |  Effective date: March 2026

1. Information We Collect

LifeTrace collects the following categories of data when you use the app:

Health data is read from Apple Health (HealthKit) only after you grant explicit permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

Location data is collected only when you grant location access in iOS Settings. We request "Always" access so that your daily journey can be captured automatically; however, the app works in reduced capacity with "While Using" access.

2. How We Use Your Data

• AI daily summary generation: Your health and location data are sent to our secure servers, where they are processed by Claude AI (Anthropic) to generate your personalized daily narrative. Data is transmitted in anonymized form — we do not send your name or email to Anthropic. This data is not used to train AI models.
• Happiness score calculation: Activity metrics are analyzed on our servers to compute your daily happiness score.
• Life Map: Location history is stored and used to render your interactive map within the app.
• Weekly insights: Aggregated data from your week is analyzed by AI to surface patterns and trends.
• App analytics: Usage data is processed by Firebase Analytics to understand feature adoption and improve the app.
• Error monitoring: Crash and error data is sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs quickly.
• Push notifications: If you enable notifications, we use your device token to send daily reminder notifications. We do not send marketing messages.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers protected by industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest). We apply role-based access controls and routine security reviews to protect your information.

Certain data (generated summaries, happiness scores, Life Map history) is cached on your device for offline access. Device-local data is protected by iOS's built-in data protection mechanisms.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete all associated data within 30 days.

4. Third-Party Services

LifeTrace uses the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy.

We do not share your data with advertising networks, data brokers, or any other third parties beyond those listed above.

4b. AI Data Processing

Before LifeTrace sends any of your data to Claude AI (Anthropic) for processing, the app will ask for your explicit consent. You will be shown exactly what data will be sent:

• Steps and distance walked
• Active minutes and calories burned
• Sleep duration
• Approximate location (city/venue level)

This data is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI solely to generate your personalized daily summary. Your data is not used to train AI models. Anthropic processes this data under their Privacy Policy, which provides protections equivalent to those described in this policy.

You can revoke your AI data consent at any time. Without AI consent, the app will not generate daily summaries but will continue to record your health metrics and location locally.

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Access: You can view your stored data within the app at any time.
• Correction: You can edit manually added information through the app settings.
• Deletion: You can request deletion of all your data by contacting us at the email below. We will process your request within 30 days.
• Health data revocation: Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → LifeTrace and disable access.
• Location revocation: Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → LifeTrace.
• Notifications: Disable push notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → LifeTrace at any time.
• Analytics opt-out: Firebase Analytics respects the iOS "Limit Ad Tracking" system setting.

6. Children's Privacy

LifeTrace is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in Japan. If you use LifeTrace from outside Japan, your data may be transferred to and processed in Japan. By using the app, you consent to this transfer. All transfers are protected by the security measures described in Section 3.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of LifeTrace after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
